What If This Melt Down Was a Church And State Issue ?
America was founded on the separation of church and state, perhaps it should have been "religion" and state instead, and then we could avoid things like this meltdown that we are currently suffering from.
In my view, the cause of the meltdown was a simple confusion between the religion of free markets and the underlying fundamentals of free markets.
I'm a big believer in the underlying fundamentals of free markets. Isn't anyone with any reasonable logic skills ? The problem we are suffering from isn't in the underlying fundamentals of free markets, it's in the religion of, or unthinking application of these fundamentals. Fundamentalists do stupid things, like blow up buildings and murder people just because other people disagree with them. People that substitue religion for thinking do stuff like that.
Free markets is a logic process, not a religion. When we approached it like an unthinking religion, we turned off our brains and let it go on automatic. I've got a great car but it doesn't drive itself, why should something like free markets ?
When we solve this problem it won't be by throwing out free markets, nor do I see anyone proposing this as a solution. We'll solve the problem the same way I attempt to drive my car, by being a good driver. Paying attention to the road, to the car, to the other drivers. I don't expect my car to drive itself, neither should we expect a marketplace to drive itself. That is a childish view of the world.
God gave me a brain, but it's up to me to use it. Opting out and not thinking or paying attention to the road is not following God or whatever my religious belief is. It's just being stupid and lazy.
