What If All This Insanity Was Just Tribalism ?

Used to be an NPR junkie until we invaded Iraq.

Now I can't listen and enjoy it because it doesn't even seem like news any more.

blah blew up blah .... this is news ? It's news when that doesn't happen.

Stan Richards wrote a book named "Peaceable Kingdom" in which he described how he built his billion dollar company from scratch on the principle of dis-allowing tribalism. Yup. You read it right. One simple principle, a billion dollar empire. OK well maybe there was more, they are very talented folks.

He spends his entire book describing how insidious tribalism is, and how he has to fight at every turn from having it creep in his organization. The result is a well oiled mechanism, but it takes constant vigilance and some very bizarre operational procedures. No one has an office, for example, the top brass and lowest peons are all in random cubicles all over the place. No status. Weird stuff, and very succesful.

Still it begs the question, now Kenya is blowing up, tribes are fighting each other over elections or power or something. Is it ALL just tribalism ? Is every fight everywhere the same silly thing ? Palestinians and Jews ? Republicans and Democrats ?

This could just as easily be a lifetime work as a one day blog.
